Diary of Ferdinando Fairfax [manuscript], 1792.

The diary records two trips through Virginia in 1792. From February 28 to March 26 Fairfax traveled from Alexandria to Yorktown and back by stagecoach. From July 14 to September 13 he traveled by horseback to Warm Springs, Bath County, and back by way of "Monticello," Albemarle County. The diary notes places where Fairfax dined and lodged, people met, road and weather conditions, observations and incidental commentary chiefly re his health. Visits with Bushrod Washington, Thomas Jefferson (1792 Sept. 8-9), Wilson Cary Nicholas and Ned Carter are briefly noted.
